Word for the Day

31 4th Sunday of Lent

Humility can only take root in the heart through humiliations. Without them there is no humility or holiness (Gaudete et exsultate 118).

Luke 15:1-3.11-32
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like on of your hired men.”

God is Love, merciful Love. Are our miseries, our faults and weaknesses, our sins and mistakes, no matter how unnatural they may have been, an insuperable obstacle to God “using” us as his instrument? By no means. We only have to do two things: See God in a new way, not from the point of view of his just love, but of his richly merciful love. If we could present our “catalogue of sins” to God, it is not an obstacle to his “catalogue of grace”. We have only to acknowledge them. (October Week 1966 – JK)
