10 First Sunday of Lent
We are frequently tempted to think that holiness is only for those who can withdraw from ordinary affairs to spend much time in prayer. (Gaudete et exsultate 14)
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit through the wilderness, being tempted there by the devil for forty days.
Luke 4:1-13
God’s intention also with temptations and all sorts of sins is to draw us into his arms. That’s why he allows them. We have no reason to be surprised, or confused, or discouraged. St Paul says that God allows sin so that he can have all the more mercy on us (cf. Ro 11,32). (Everyday Sanctity – JK)
